What Does A Part-Time CFO Do For A High Wycombe Business?
Secantor's part-time CFOs help High Wycombe businesses decide where they are going and how to pay for it. A Finance Director makes the numbers reliable. A CFO uses them to choose the next move, secure the funding and build the value of the business.
- Direction. A long term plan and financial model that ties ambition to cash.
- Funding. Choosing the right finance and leading the conversations with banks and investors.
- Growth and deals. Financial leadership through acquisitions, disposals and restructures.
- Value. Building a business that runs without its owners and is ready for a sale or succession.
- Board. Financial discipline and challenge at board level.
The same role is also called a fractional, outsourced or virtual CFO. Our Part-Time Finance Director looks after reporting and control day to day, and the CFO builds on that foundation.
When Does A High Wycombe Business Need A Part-Time CFO?
Secantor's part-time CFO service suits a High Wycombe business whose decisions are bigger than its finance function can carry. Typical triggers include a bank reviewing its facilities, a growth plan that needs funding, a founder thinking about succession, or losses that nobody has had time to trace to their cause. Our guide to when an SME needs a CFO lists the warning signs.
How Has A Part-Time CFO Helped A Business Under Pressure?
A long-established building materials business had weathered several hard years: falling volumes, higher costs and the failure of several wholesale customers. It had annual turnover of around £3.5m and a net loss of £225,000, and the bank had begun reviewing its overdraft.
The directors understood their customers and products thoroughly, but daily pressures left little room to step back and ask what was really driving the losses. They asked Secantor for an independent review. A Secantor CFO built a financial model of profit, cash and costs, and used it to test long-held assumptions. It showed that falling sales were only part of the picture: the oversized warehouse was a valuable asset sitting idle, not simply a cost.
From the model came four moves: a storage and handling service for other businesses, using the spare warehouse capacity and expected to add around £300,000 of revenue a year once the available space is full; a clearance channel that turns slow-moving stock into cash without damaging core prices; a change in management focus from volume to margin; and a proper charge for delivery, expected to add around £50,000 of profit a year. The CFO then built a forecast showing the effect on profit and cash and supported the directors in presenting it to the bank, which agreed to keep its facilities in place while the plan takes effect.
Together the actions identified over £350,000 of profit opportunities and are expected to return the business to profit without major investment or heavy sales growth. Secantor continues to meet the directors for regular strategic reviews. Read the full case study.
How Does A Part-Time CFO Work With You?
Secantor starts a part-time CFO engagement in High Wycombe with a visit to your premises, to hear what you want the business to achieve and where it is under pressure, then proposes the advisor whose experience fits. The CFO works in regular days each month around your board and your funders, with extra days when a funding round or a transaction needs them.
What Does A Part-Time CFO Cost In High Wycombe?
Secantor charges £1,200 a day plus VAT and expenses for a part-time CFO in High Wycombe. Most businesses start with two to four days a month and adjust as the plan needs, with more days around a funding round or a sale. See our cost guide for the full figures.
Which Arrangement Suits A High Wycombe Business?
Secantor's part-time CFO suits a High Wycombe business whose main question is direction, funding or a sale. If reporting and control come first, start with a Part-Time Finance Director. If the board needs an outside voice, a Non-Executive Director can help. If a leadership gap or a deal needs cover now, an Interim CFO can start at short notice. Our guide to Fractional vs Part-Time vs Interim CFO explains how they differ.
How Does A Part-Time CFO Work With Your Existing Team?
Secantor's part-time CFOs work alongside the finance team, accountants and board of a High Wycombe business and do not replace them. They add the senior strategic layer above your existing finance function, and we do not provide bookkeeping or outsourced accounts. If a sale is on your mind, our Exit Planning service explains how we prepare a business for one.

What Do High Wycombe Business Owners Ask About A Part-Time CFO?
It depends on the question you are asking. If it is “are the numbers right?”, you need a Finance Director. If it is “where do we go and how do we fund it?”, you need a CFO. One Secantor advisor often covers both in businesses of our clients' size.
Two to four days a month is a common start, with more days around a funding round or a sale. The level is agreed at the first meeting and reviewed as the business changes.
Yes. A CFO prepares the forecast, the cash flow and the model a bank wants to see, and can join your meetings with lenders to explain them.
